Ok, so as promised, I’m going to dissect how marketing really works, more precisely, how good marketing really works, and don’t worry, we're not going to talk about boring stuff like ‘brand awareness’ or give you Coca-Cola examples. No!
These 3 simple principles are from the real world; you can use them for your business without having a $7 million marketing budget!
They bring sales to any business, any industry, online or offline; your nephew selling vapes at school; you name it. It works because these are core principles a business can’t function without. Here they are:
Number 1: Your message. What are you saying?
We’re starting with the message because this is where you grab the attention of your ideal client. You need to be clear, not boring, and persuasive, but most importantly, it must never be ‘We’re cheap’ or ‘We’re the lowest price.
If you start by telling people that you’re cheap, you will always be perceived as the ‘cheap guy’, and remember that there is always someone cheaper than you. You’ll be stuck in a downward spiral.
Don’t say the exact same stuff as everyone else, and you will get attention. Look at the title of this article; does it grab your attention? Makes you promise?
Building Your Message
Think about who you are actually talking with—your target audience.
What do these people want as an end result? As a quick example, we can think of someone who needs their house painted.
They don’t need a painter.
They need a freshly painted house.
Number 2: Who is the message for? Who are we selling to?
Your message needs to be directed towards your target audience, because if you try to get the attention of everyone, you’ll get no one. Seen many businesses sell many different things at the same time, and they have one thing in common: low profits.
If you sell massages to pregnant ladies, target only them, get their attention, don’t go down the path that maybe they have a husband and they’ll book for them, and bla.. bla..No!
That is you, wasting ad dollars on a group of people that are not your regular clients.
They don’t care. Not pregnant, not going to buy.
Number 3: How are we going to reach these people? Medium
After you’ve figured out your message and have a target audience in mind, you have to find the best way to reach these people.
Is it social media? Which platform? direct mail? pubs? Pigeons?
Think about where they gather, and have your message out there. Social media makes this extremely easy nowadays.
